Creationism and Evolution
My local newspaper has a story this morning about the world’s first Creation Museum in New York. It includes exhibits that challenge evolutionary theory. I really don’t understand why there has to be such a divide between these two ways of thinking. Actually, I do, it is just human nature. Humans appear hell bent on perpetuating conflict based on difference rather than embracing what makes us all the same.
But I digress, back to creationism v’s evolution. I ask, what is wrong with taking something from each side. I quite like the idea of a “creator”, whether that be God according to a Christian, Muslim, Hindu or any other viewpoint or a less traditional concept of the term. I also think that there is an overwhelming amount of evidence in support of evolution. I am not the first person to think in terms of the creator putting the necessary circumstances in place to allow the process of evolution as we know it to take place. I like the idea of God thinking to himself (herself) “I think I’ll make a universe, what do I need? I know, let’s start with a really big explosion.”
How about this for an idea: God creates not one but two universes. He (She) then subtly changes the conditions for each one to see which one thrives and which one dies. I wonder which one we are living in?

the problem with just taking some from both sides is that it just doesn’t work. You and I can see it as not being a conflict, but people who actually beleive that the Bible is the divine word of God can’t. No matter what evidence science provides, it will never be good enough because the Bible is already right, and if something says different than the Bible it is clearly wrong.
As far as the other way ‘round, the only real ‘debate’ is whether to be talking about untestable, unobservable things in science class, wherein science is defined as ‘learning from observing and testing things.’
There’s no room to just ‘take some of both sides’ if you’re teaching science.
It seems that both sides of the argument aren’t possible to rectify together without admitting that you don’t know everything. Science is all ABOUT admittig that you don’t know everything, but religion very much isn.

It would be wonderful if taking some from each theory would make life better, but I agree with Jer that those thumping the Bible will never even allow the conversation of evolution. So...with all the organized religion, the cards are stacked against it. Get thought process on this Coach. You have me sold. Have a great day. Peace
